Confirmation Course Q&A
Who should attend confirmation course?
Licensed city guide whom has exceeded TWO years probation period since badge issuance date working as tourist guide .
How long is the confirmation course?
Confirmation course is a 4-7 days speaker topics program followed by guiding skill assessment. Duration varied from TGAs.
Where will confirmation course take place?
Hotel, TGA office, Tourism School, Outstation hotel or etc.. varied from TGAs. Only TGAs accredited by MOTOUR are authorized to conduct confirmation course.
How much is the course fees?
RM300-RM1000 varied from TGAs. No additional charge for multilingual badge holder. Additional language (add language) will be charged RM200-RM400 per add language assessment.
What about multi-language badge holder?
You have to go through coach and slide assessment for ALL languages listed on your badge. Unless you plan to drop any language(s) from your badge, written notice of language drop are required prior to the guiding skill assessment.
What about additional language (add language)?
Assuming you have previously pass confirmation course or not yet qualified to attend confirmation course, you can still go for additional language assessment with other candidates during confirmation course. You just have to pay the add language fees as mentioned above and come only for the language assessment during assessment day(s). **Advisable to do additional language after you have pass confirmation course to minimize hassles/pressures doing multilingual assessment. Otherwise you are advisable to do additional language at least 6 months or more before confirmation course so that your new added language accepted into confirmation course assessment.
When should I register for confirmation course?
Advisable ONE month prior to the course commencement date, as confirmation course organizer has to submit candidate list to MOTOUR for eligibility & validity check prior to the course commencement.
For multi-language badge holder, what if I failed any ONE or MORE of the languages?
You still have to redo confirmation course for the failed language(s) only. With exception if you decide to drop the language; written notice are required to be submitted to MOTOUR during badge renewal.
What's the course content would be?
First 2-5 days are classroom speaker topics related to guiding, code of ethics, tourism industry, special topics and etc.. Topics varied from TGAs. Followed by last 1-2 days will be coach and slide assessment.
What if I haven't attend any confirmation course after TWO years of probation period?
Some guides who has been guiding 2 years or more and yet to pass confirmation course have received warning letter from MOTOUR. In the letter, MOTOUR allows them period of SIX months to ONE year to attend and pass confirmation course else their license will be revoked at renewal.
Can I attend confirmation course if I yet to meet TWO years probation period?
Advisable NOT unless receive prior approval from MOTOUR. You may double check with the respected TGA at registration to avoid disappointment. There are cases where "new" guide passed "early" confirmation course; not accepted by MOTOUR during badge renewal.
What are the advantages of passing confirmation course?
You will be categorized as professional guide and qualified to guide MEGA FAM group which pay higher guide fees. You only have to do license renewal every TWO years instead of on yearly basis.
Is it easy to pass confirmation course?
Yes, if you are active guide and serious about your guiding job. You need to read newspaper daily, keep abreast of all information and always upgrade yourself through CTREs and readings. Some guides do take one month off job to prepare for confirmation course assessment. Since the marking standard level up over years, you are advisable to complete your confirmation course as soon as your probation period over. Once you have completed it, your burden relieved.
